About Us

Summit Sweeping was incorporated in the spring of 1993. Summit Sweeping is the brainchild of Mike Oetting, current owner and general manager. Mike has 34 years experience in the service industry, starting with landscaping and snow removal. In 1983, Mike accepted employment with a highway construction company, performing jobs laboring, truck driving, and maintenance in the shop. In 1990, Mike was promoted to management and assumed responsibility for all landscape operations in the state of Indiana. During this seven year tenure, Summit Sweeping was born as a way for Mike to spend more time with his family and yet, to utilize his skills and energy. The first three years of Summit Sweeping were built while Mike continued to work for the construction company. Many construction related contacts helped market the start up sweeping company. Eventually, the growth of Summit Sweeping and the workload of two jobs, convinced Mike it was time to commit full time to his new company.

In the past ten years, Summit Sweeping has grown from three employees to 12, with seasonal help reaching 15. The business has grown from a pole barn behind Mikes home to a 15,000 square foot facility and a fleet of trucks and equipment. Summit Sweeping operates seven days a week, with Christmas Day the only closed day of the year.

In December 2006, Mikes oldest son Ben, returned home from Tri State University with a bachelors degree in Business Management. Ben worked in production for three years during summer break, and has now assumed some additional production duties and will begin learning the management side of Summit Sweeping. New additions to the business in 2007 will offer Ben additional responsibilities.

Sweeping Changes

The following article, published in "Business People" Magazine in November 2003, is testament to customer service and commitment offered by Summit Sweeping.

Sweeping Changes Cover PhotoHundreds of businesses in virtually all industries look to Summit Sweeping to take on important cleaning projects of all shapes and sizes.

At the start of business each day at Glenbrook Square, Indiana’s largest shopping mall complex, the giant parking lot is clean and spotless. It was, however, strikingly different the night before. The transformation is the result of the skilled efforts of Summit Sweeping, a Fort Wayne company that meets the needs of retail and industrial businesses that care about presenting a fresh and orderly image to their customers.

Owner and general manager Mike Oetting started his involvement with the business 10 years ago after leaving a secure job with a local highway construction contractor. He wanted more time with his family, yet he also wanted to be part of an enterprise that would keep him busy enough for his energetic personality. The company is located in about 30 percent of the former Waynedale Lumber Company facility on Lower Huntington Road and stretching north on Ideal Avenue. From here, Oetting directs a crew of 12 employees in a round-the-clock effort to meet his customers’ needs. Projects range from daily services to one time emergency situations that call for a responsive, dependable and creative approach — the kind that Summit Sweeping regularly delivers.
